Exhaust????
I spent two hours reading the results of my search on exhaust- my eyes are blurring
I am getting ready for the exhaust on my 69 GMC SWB 2wd. I have moved the tank under the back where the tire was. I am running 3" all the way from the headers to the duals straight out the back. Anyone have any tips or cautions based on experience with this kind of setup? The truck sits real low..... Thanks,

Re: Exhaust????
Unless you just have one bad arse motor, 3" is a waste of funds, I worked
in a Muffler shop PT for 2.5 years so I have a lil knowledge on that subject Anywhohow, it's going to be extremely tight in the back around / over axle if it is slammed to the ground, just incase you rethink it here is a HP chart.

Re: Exhaust????
Just how low are we talking about? I sit on the low side with Slow Build and I built mine with the intention of 3" (Charged Lt1) but I am goint to keep it natural now and teh 2.5" is still going to be tuff to get all the way out. Is your frame C-notched, stepped or are you just as low as it will go with out these mods?
In the first pic you can see the curves added to the tranny cross member and the mouse holes added to the trailing arm cross member. Second shot shows the muffler placement to get up and over the trailing arms. Third shows bed floor mods to help make room for a few things. Fourth just because Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: Exhaust????
Thanks for the comments and info.
The truck is running a 400 horse 396. The reason for the exhaust size is the sound, not just performance. Exiting the truck with the rear tank is where I suspect to have trouble if there is any No mods to the frame but it is plenty low. Thanks again!

Re: Exhaust????
Here's pics of my exhaust. The first 3 are from the back looking up to the trans mount the 4th is over the axle and the last one is thru the crossmember that the trailing arms are on. Its 2.5" and I think they sound great. I'm running dynomax mufflers stright out the back. My gas tank is still in the cab, but I don't see a problem with a tank back there. I had a step bumper and that dropped the tail pipes considerably. After I removed it, I was supprised at how much more room I had to tuck those babies up. Which will happen during by rebuild of my truck.
