I broke the cardinal rules..

when looking at a "new" vehicle!

#1 I didn't get pics for y'all to evaulate!!

#2 I didn't look at the option sheet in the glove box!!

#3 I didn't check the VIN plate!!

#4 I didn't take a magnet!!

My hubby and I looked at a 1970 short fleet w/ a 235 (possibly a 250) 6 cylinder in it. It was a one owner vehicle (hubby new the grandson for YEARS) and owner has passed away, so son is selling. It has been kept in a garage/shed since new as the owner was a "gentleman farmer". Has less that 70,000 original miles on it. Metal bed looked awesome and there seems to be no body damage to the front. Rockers will have to be repaired, and the passenger inner fender will need replacing (damn battery). Son did have it repainted original colors. He's asking $2000 for it, but hubby thinks he'll take $1700. We were looking for parts for the '67 when we heard about this. Hubby said there is NO WAY we could use it for parts.

Two questions....is it worth $2000 and what specifically do we need to look for when/if we go back? Like I said...husband has known this family for years and went to high school with the grandson, so the truck is as told to us.

Re: I broke the cardinal rules..

If it 's original motor, it should be a 250 - imo, it depends on what you want to do to the truck. If it's bone stock and you want to put a 350, ps, auto, etc., you're better off trying to find something a little closer -but I really like those 6 cylinder trucks, and it sounds like a pretty good deal. Especially if you know the history. I say, go for it.

Re: I broke the cardinal rules..

It hasn't been touched! Mr. C said he was tired of paying insurance and tags for it and it just sit there. And he'd like to know that it went to someone who appreciates it. When we told him we were restoring the '67, he looked at me and told me the '70 could be mine. LOL! I told him I'd prolly have to wait and let hubby have the '70. It's been so long since I've driven a 3 on a tree...I'd prolly wreck!

Yep! I've got 2 Jeeps, so hubby can have the '70. Or he and kid can swap. Or I could let hubby have the Wrangler and I'll take the '67.

He's supposed to call Mr. C and see if he'll take $1700 for it. If he does, I'll have pics for y'all to tell us we are .

Damn you people for making this an addiction!!! Damn you all!!!!

Re: I broke the cardinal rules..

We also broke rule #5.....take cash and don't doddle! LOL!! The truck was sold when we called to tell him we wanted it. And when heading home this afternoon, we saw it on the side of the road w/ a different 4sale sign on it. I stopped and asked the guy how much he wanted for it and he said $3500. I don't think it'll bring that much. Oh well.....I keep saying we didn't have the room for it anyways.

Thanks all for the advice. I'm writing these rules down and will have them posted in my Jeep and hubby's truck from now on! Y'all are the best!

Basically a new truck! We got a front clip at the pullapart a few weeks ago. Looks dang good! We'll have to replace the inner pass. fender (damn battery again). We'll need a whole step bed, would like a nicer cab than the two we have. Our dash is BEAUTIFUL, but the cowl is GONE!!! Doors are shot....we could PROBABLY go with skins, but would rather have full doors.

And we still don't know what we'll do about the motor. It's original I6 and we were able to see the tag on the transfer case for the first time yesterday. It looks original, too. But hubby is THINKING of dropping a V8 in just to rod it a little bit.
