Re: Saying Goodbye

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually work in Personnel and deal with the PCS allowances a lot. Technically, you are only allowed to ship one vehicle. Also, non-temporary storage is discretionary and must be funded by the overseas base. Needless to say, with the AF's money situation, this is not being offered for extraneous things like vehicles. The Navy is a bit different due to being at sea. Unfortunately, the truck is on the block.

Re: Saying Goodbye

Sorry to hear that, I thought the Navy's rules were tighter (at least they are for moving parts in household goods, I think).

Next option is to leave it with family or someone who will look after it. 3 years goes by fast - I spent 6 in Japan and it seems like yesterday I was just getting there......

Best of luck, your truck looks beautiful and is not much more than what I paid for a borderline basket case.

Regards,
Bill in SD

Re: Saying Goodbye

Are you stationed at Randolph? My mom was stationed for there 11 years. We were also stationed in Lakenheath, UK for 3 years and it was the best time of my life. I think you'll enjoy Germany. Shame about the truck. I almost crapped myself when I saw a pic of that factory big block. And at the risk of sounding redundant, thanks for serving!

Re: Saying Goodbye

Ship that truck with you over to Germany. You can sell the car you were going to ship and keep the truck. I saw one 67-72 chevy truck at the base I was at in Italy. You can pick up a decent car (lots of BMW's and MB's over in Germany) at the base for a few thousand. Unless you already did the paperwork for your car you were going to ship get rid of it and take the truck with you. You will be getting tons of looks from the people over there. Plus the German roads are big enough to drive a truck around. I would regret selling such a nice ride as that like the other guys are saying. I only wish I have one as nice as yours some day. I loved Germany when I was up there a few years back. I miss the food and beer the most.

Re: Saying Goodbye

I left my truck in my mom's barn (she drove it a lot anyway) while I was stationed in England for 3 years. it was nice to come home on leave and have it there to drive, and it was ready and waiting on me when I PCS'd from England to Missouri. I sold my truck to a guy I worked with when I was stationed in Arkansas and regretted it every day he drove it to work, I told him if he ever sold it I better be the first to know about it, he got orders to Japan and his wife made him sell it so I bought it back from him. If it ran off a cliff and crashed into flames I still wouldn't get rid of it now...I got it when I was 15.

Have fun in Spangquinton!!

These trucks can bring a lot of money over in Europe, here are a couple I found for sale on a German site:

http://www.mobile.de/SID05s8DsHqAqkv...1111179612665&
http://www.mobile.de/SID05s8DsHqAqkv...1111241177269&
They are asking EUR 7,400-9,900 which is about $10,000-13,000 and from pictures I think your truck is worth more than those.

Re: Saying Goodbye

Take it with you and enjoy it while you're there. That was one of the worst parts about being over seas, no hotrods to look at or drive, .

Re: Saying Goodbye

Thanks, guys, but my wife would kill me if I made her get rid of her new Trailblazer EXT LT.
