Re: heads from Jeg's

These heads were a first read for me. IMO they are pretty serious heads. BTW may I add good Pricing!

That will require healthy cam profile to get there full potential.

What type of engine platform are you looking to build street/strip or daily driver, race? A little more info please.

They seem to have some high cc volume runners IMO for street use.
Exept for the 197's. They would be more than capable to build a serious street driven SBC.

Some one may have better first hand knowlege of these pieces. THey almost have a look of the Pro Top line castings being sold under many other names but, I'm not real sure. Anyone else?

Other than that I have always been happy with Jeg's customer service so it might be worth checking into IMO.

Re: heads from Jeg's

Don't put them on a stock or mild sbc, ports are way too big, high rev 377,383 400 etc. I would go no bigger than 185 on street driven sb and 200 on a street strip due to volocity speeds. High compression big stroke= big cc runners small bore short stroke lower rpms= smaller ports. I think thats right anyways...

Re: heads from Jeg's

Thanks guys, this will be a daily driver the plan is to buy heads now and in a few months buy a top end kit with cam, carb and intake. But I get the feeling some planning is in order. Since Im not sure what Im doing here I wanted to spend some time getting your feedback and hopefully I will learn something in the process. What I have now is a stock 350 with 882 heads (76cc) and a mild cam. Im alittle confused about cc sizes since it seems to me that a larger size would be more fuel but a smaller size would be more compression, which is better for what? I know alot of my questions will be elementary school level but thats where Im at lol. Thanks again.

Your getting the cc of the combustion chamber and the cc of the runner of the head confused.

Smaller cc combustion chamber will raise C/R. And aise versa

Larger cc runner volume is for higher HP and high rpm engines not quite suited for daily drivers.

Re: heads from Jeg's

For a Daily Driver you won't need much more than a 180-200cc intake runner. 200 is even big for a driver. Unless your squeezing some N2O or something that needs the extra room. JMO

Re: heads from Jeg's

IMHO you really don't want big intake runners for N2O oppisite in fact. When running Nitrous you really need to maximize the exaust side to get the full potential. Sometime you will make more power going smaller runners on the intake side SOMETIMES NOT ALWAYS but, thats a whole other topic (can-O- worms)than this thread also. RJ22

Thanks I will start reading those. I thought it would help if I posted a link to the top end kit I want to buy.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Im looking for a daily driver that still has a lope at idle and runs strong. I dont anticipate racing but who knows lol. Anyway if I were to get this kit which heads would go best and why (simple question huh )? I dont want to waste my money and I dont to build an engine that has to be at 3800 rpm to develop good power. Im not rushing in to this either I want to know that I know that I know what Im buying and why. Thanks for your patience fellas and again arkracing thanks for the link this board is so massive I still havent hit it all.

Re: heads from Jeg's

I would use 3:73 gears, 2500 rpm torque converter and 180cc Dart heads with that package. Ebay has some good deals on Darts or check with your local speed shop for price matching.

Re: heads from Jeg's

IMO that cam is a little wild for street use in a truck. you will be giving up too much bottom end and it will be down on streetable manners. you dont need a lope to be powerful.
the 197 cc runner heads are also a little big. your 882 heads, are they the 1.94/1.6 valved or the 1.75/1.5 valved? the 1.94/1.6 version with a good gasket matching to the intake will net good flow and flame front speed. not too fast and not too slow.
as for the chamber volume, though the smaller ones will raise CR they will shroud flow at higher RPMs. bigger valves will do the same also. (the AF mix hits the side of chamber and starts seperating the fuel from the air.)
split pattern cams tend to have a wider power band than the single pattern ones. more duration thends to waste fuel at lower RPMs and create dead spots off idle. (sucks gas and runs like crap)

the number one rule of thumb when building an engine; go for torque in the RPM range you want to run and HP will take care of itself. be realistic here.
