Factory style gas cap?
Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a noob question, but I need to get a new gas cap for my 67 c10. What's the best vendor to get a stock looking chrome gas cap from? I've gone through the various vendors listed on this site and the prices vary from $40 to $7. I'm just not sure who I should go with. |

Re: Factory style gas cap?
Yeah, but those ones fom the parts guys have all the red writing, saying 'WARNING' this and stuff right? The original cap was a plain jane, chrome cap with a keyhole in the center. Kind of domed too I think.

Re: Factory style gas cap?
Why not purchase from any of the listed vendors on this sites home page? Also check out the parts section here!

Re: Factory style gas cap?
even if you get the one with the warning and all you can take all that off, its usually just a sticker anyway

I just bought a locking one from LMC & it leaks worse than the old original I replaced. Please let me know who makes a good one. Locking or not...

Re: Factory style gas cap?
Here you guys go. You have to enter 68 or newer to find truck parts, the computers only go back to 68 except vw's.

Re: Factory style gas cap?
Gas sloshes out all down the side of my cab & bed after I fill up & I don't top off 7 even stop sooner than I would like...This is the reason I bought a new cap. I just thought the old gasket had used up all it's life...

go to your parts store of choice, ask for a stant 11623. This will work for a 70 or older.

i bought a black plastic locking one for my gmc at autozone, works great.
Locking caps are worth the money it will at least slow down the gas thief

Re: Factory style gas cap?
yeah, but a locking gas cap SUCKS in the cold weather. When you have less than a gallon of gas, and there's ice in the lock... people will look at you funny when you are holding a lighter to the cap trying to thaw it out enough to get the sucker off.
I've actually had some ballsey/brilliant thieves, crawl under my truck, undo the fuel line, and take 3 FULL tanks of fuel that way. Had me thinking I was goin nuts. |

Re: Factory style gas cap?
I picked up my gas cap from early classics when i replaced my sending unit.
I had the same problem with gas sloshing out and running down the side of my truck. The new cap did the trick.

Getting back to the thread, I bought the black one from Autozone, too. It works fine, but I still thinks its ugly. Last edited by spdrcr29; 04-13-2007 at 07:41 PM. |

Re: Factory style gas cap?
I had the same problem on Big Blue a couple of years ago.
the gas filler neck at the top leaked . I found out after three different caps I had laying around that the filler neck inside where the cap tightens down had been lifting the inside rim/threads, so I re-adjusted them downward and WALLA!!!, No more gas leaks! try it! |
