Re: 3 speeds trans
It's small because there are only 3 gears. It can handle a few more horses.
Just don't try reverse burnouts ( I did when I was 16 in my '62 ) Also don't speed shift if it is still a column shifter. ( another stupid mistake a 16 yr. old makes) |

Re: 3 speeds trans
The strength isn't the problem, it the fact that first gear is not synchronized. You must make a complete stop to put the transmission into first gear or you will hear a grinding sound.

Re: 3 speeds trans
is this 1st gear not syncrinized in turbo 35o's also? I know its an auto, but if i dont make a cmplete stop, the truck doesnt accelerate as well, like its in second instead of first.....(sry for the highjack)

Re: 3 speeds trans
Sounds like you have a kick-down linkage problem....disconnected or mis-adjusted.

Re: 3 speeds trans
have 327 build 4000m. ago. 450 lift cam & 850cfm quadjet off big block buick. i bang gears pretty hard with it. got 4:11 rearend & can lay 50yrd of rubber & make it squell thru 3rd. put indy floor shift on it. even fit good with bench. has held up thru 2 sets of tires. have it going into my shop this week for front disc brakes/thanks to a 78 donor truck. drums just don't cut it anymore jw
