How Bad Is This Rust???

I don't know that much about repairing it but doesn't look that bad to me. What do you think? The cab corner is fine accidentally attached.

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

Not bad at all. Easy fix. Quit leaning on the door with your arm though. The acid in your body is eating away at the metal. I told you I have your twin.

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

That is just surface rust. I'd hit it with a DA sander and epoxy primer. Any pits that may be left use a little filler primer. No problems there, very fixable stuff.

Here is a pic of what can be done to the hood. This spot was done in less than 1 minute I believe is what I timed it at. The longest part was letting the rust killer soak in.

That amazing. I've been worrying about that rust for 10 years. You sure made meel fell better. Someone here always seems to have the answer. Is that true about the acid from your arm?? Wish I was half as wise. Thanks

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

Yes, that is why they rust like that. That is why you should never touch bare metal with your bare hands either. It will come back and haunt you after you paint the vehicle. Sometimes you will see a paint job and you can see someone's fingerprint or palm print lifting the paint. That is where someone touched the bare metal and did not clean the surface properly.

Yes, that is the truck in my avatar but the red fenders were for my 72 2wd Blazer that I have. I am going to go with a 67 front end now so those fenders will be for sale soon!!

I agree you should be to only have that kind of rust. I would give almost anything to have a truck with that amount of rust. This is a couple pic's of what us northeners have to deal with

I get your point that sh*ts killer. I recently moved to east tx from Dallas and you should see all these truck out here they are everywhere mostly longbeds
for farms, ranchs etc. good place to look for trucks. saw a good one go last monthy for 2k would have been easy $3500 in Dallas area. I'll pass deals along now that i'm hooked up.

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

Well I don't know what ate mine I bought it this way. Knowing that everything was going to be replaced from the frame up. Luckily the frame is pretty nice. I wanted a frame up project anyway. I did drive it home after I bought it Central OH to Central PA. You should have seen the people stare I loved it. The tape I put on In OH and held up GR8 BTW. Not quite 200 but pretty fast at times

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

RacinJason, Thats not so bad! You need to use that foil furnace tape and shoot it with a can of red primer. It look as good as new .

I wish I has a pic of the truck I looked a few years ago, The guy made cab supports out of 2x4's and fixed the floor with plywood. Then to top it all off, he stuffed rags in the rust holes in the cab corners and bed and topped it off with what else......cement!

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

Make sure you use that Permatex rust treatment after sanding rust away. That will come back and haunt you,if you don`t.
I think it`s oils and salt from your skin that soften and rust the doors.Maybe a combination of both. But,it`s oil from your fingers on bare metal that needs to be cleaned before painting.

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

This will make you feel better about your "rust" issues... This was a NY born and raised truck... Luckily he undercoated it and it saved a majority of the frame and body. My 97 Camry has more rust than your truck, it was a NY car too....

Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

As you have seen, there are a lot of people fighting rust. The choice is whether you want to take on the time and cost of fixing it. I had a cab that required a lot of work, although not as bad as some of the others I have seen. Before I started to repair the cab, I found an A/C cab on Craigslist for $500 (including the frame). I couldn't pass up the deal or the extra parts and picked it up a day after paying for it. You can see the pic of my floor board and sort of see what I started with, but undertstand, this picture does not give justice to what a "cancer" basket I really had.

Talking Re: How Bad Is This Rust???

Thanks for all the input. I wasn't sure if this was really just surface rust.
As was pointed out guess I am pretty lucky and shouldn't be a fourtune to fix.
Felling alot better .
