front driveline repair #%!!@*!!
I just finished putting new u joints and cv joint components in the 71. Not much fun! The ball was wasted, had no needle bearings left and the bearing that goes around the outside of it was torn in half and almost welded into the socket. Turns out there's a grease zirk to keep it lubed. One of those needle zirks that looks a lot like a set screw. The good news is I thought the transfer case had major issues, but it was mostly the CV joint, plus one of the 3 u joints. No damage to the transfer case at all. And an added bonus, I did the work on the job, so someone paid me to work on my own rig. Gotta love night shifts on the weekend! Now if I could just get the trans to stop dumping fluid..............
