Distributor question?
Here is another one to throw at you. this truck came without the stock distributor, in its Place is a HEI distributor. The white resistor wire (cloth wire) that comes from the firewall to the orig. coil has been cut and spliced with a regular wire (not sure what ga.) which now goes to the HEI distributor. I want to replace the existing wiring harness with a new one, will there be a problem with using the new harness resistor wire with the HEI distributor? I guess what i'm asking is does the HEI need a special type of wire different than the resistor wire which will come in the new harness? Has anyone used the HEI in this fashion?

Re: Distributor question?
M&H makes an engine compartment factory look alike wiring harness all set up for an HEI dist. I have one...they are plug and play units! Plug it in the firewall hook up the ends where they go and turn the key.

Re: Distributor question?
To answer your orignal question, the HEI must have a regular wire not a resistance wire (it needs a full 12V, actually more like 14V when running).

Re: Distributor question?
There is an article in the FAQ that explains on how to wire a non stock HEI.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=17403 It explains on what was said above the HEI needs 12 volts while points would burn up at 12v so that is why you have the resistance wire. Follow the steps in the FAQ post and you should be good to go.
