GMC Vin decode please

Trying to find if my 70 GMC shorty was a step bed or a fleet bed from the factory. It has a steel floor fleet bed on it now and needs a lot of work. It's a 250 6cly/3 column shift. It had the vin listed on the glove box lid and not a model code like the Chevys do. Only 2 options listed: Blue paint & blue interior trim. The other oddity is that it has a coil spring rearend, which sould be listed as an option, am I right or wrong?

coil spring is standard on just about all 67-72 1/2 tons

Standard for Chevys, optional for GMCs they had (for the most part) Leaf type rears, or so I have read here on the board.

If I just drop down to the last part and add the "34" it works. I need to know if it's correct.
And what is up with the ZZ ?

Sorry didnt realise this. Both my GMC have coils, should it say anything different on the SPID sheet

If I remember right, the 3/4 tons have leafs, the 1/2's have coils.

Maybe that changed after 68? Every 67 & 68 1/2 ton GMC I have come accross had leafs.

Just looked at my glove box in my 1970 GMC which has leaf springs on it and they are listed on the option list. Your model number may be worn off,mine is just above the paint colour on the left hand side of the option list just below the word description.

Everything I've read said that Chevy's were factory coil and GMC factory leaf unless special ordered. But if your GMC has optional leafs I guess I'm not right Also, I know I've read that GMC's are decoded differently than Chevy's. I think Longhornman has some decoding info for them.

I think 69 and 70 1/2 tons GMC had coils standard, I know every 69 1/2 ton I've seen had them, and not listed on the SPID.
