Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Some progress. I need to determine the placement of the tranny crossmember, but at least it is on the frame!

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Everything's looking great! What headers are you running, and how are clearances? They look like they fit quite nice.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
They are Hooker Headers for 2000 F-Body (per your suggestion). I didn't have to cut the frame. I am eager to see how the steering shaft you sent me works?? These headers have all the smog crab on them. Do you think there anything i can do? Or will I have to find another set?

I will be putting together our shop truck this month (same set-up you're running), and if necessary, I will just put together a support bearing bracket that bolts-on for the steering shaft, and will send you one... if you'd like.

I would like that very much. By the way, is there a set placement (up and down) for your tranny crossmember. I wasn't sure if i used any of the factory holes as a guide. |

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
It's not intended to use any of the factory holes... you might get lucky!
When installing, just make sure it's square... mark the holes, drill them out, and bolt it up.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
I made a little progress so i thought i would post some pics. Please excuse the dust. I ran the fuel lines and yes they look very similar to 68SS's. That is because I liked his! I mounted 2 - 3 gallon tanks for the Level pro system and started running the air lines. I also started the brake lines. My battery died before I finished pics...so here is what I got.

I made a little progress today. Here are some pics. I would love to get some feedback on the location of the compressor. This is my install in these frames.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
I may run it on the higher side. I am running a bolt in C-notch so my back end will set a little high.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
I made some more progress today trying to get it ready for the body guy. I have some clearance issues that I will have to work out. My rear tires won't tuck like i need them to. The center bore on the rear wheels is to small so i can't set them back to see how tight it will be. My body guy has some work to do but it could be worse. Also had clearance issues with the gas tank. It sticks up to far?? I will be calling Doc on Monday. Enjoy!

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Sorta - 2 things are causing the problem.
1 - I bought a rearend from a board member thinking it was out of 67 which would have been the width I wanted/needed, but turns out it was from a 71-72. So I am no better off than where I started. 2 - The wheels are a 4.75 lug pattern and have a smaller bore so they won't slide all the way back on the axle. Once I correct that issue, I may gain enough clearance, but will probably need to remove some inner fender as well. Such is life! |
