I fought the law and the law won
Well, I finally got a warning for my backyard.
$500 later, I'm in compliance with the city ordinance. Here's a before and after pic. Bastards.

nice fence, lol
my uncle always used to get on the nerves of the neighbors, he had three 67-72 trucks a 67 chevelle, a 69' 442, his chevette drag car, and what is now my truck sitting on his lot, well at least no one can steal your stuff easily now

Re: I fought the law and the law won
Dude that sux. Only 4 vehicles and they're on you about that. There are junk cars and trucks all over the place where I live. And I do mean junk. Some of these things are rusted beyond recognition or wrecked so badly you don't even know what it's supposed to be. And of course a lot of those "I'm gonna fix it up someday" vehicles. I wish they would make people clean up their yards. I've got one parts truck sitting in my yard now. It's only been there for a few days and I'm ready to get what I need and get it gone. I don't mind fixer uppers, but the JUNK needs to be gone.

Re: I fought the law and the law won
Well, the trucks had been in the backyard for about 8 months. Last month I brought a parts truck home for my daily driver. I knew it'd only be there for a week or two, so I left it beside the house. That drew the attn of the code enforcement officer, then she busted me for the four in the back yard too. She said get rid of them or put up a privacy fence - and I'm not getting rid of my trucks, so I put up privacy fence about 5 feet in front of the trucks.
I've been considering having somebody paint the mural of exactly what the trucks look like just to piss them off. Or, park them all in the front yard and fill the beds with plants just out of spite. Worst part of it is, is that I live in a low to middle class, on my yard's worst, it's looks better than half the yards in town. |

Re: I fought the law and the law won
I had an inspector warn me about 1 vehicle being in my driveway with the wheel off, because it was not registered to me. I told him to get off my property or I'd let my dog out (92lb pit bull). he left in a hurry, but I still moved it cause I didn't want the ticket!

Re: I fought the law and the law won
I really like the idea of painting the trucks on the fence - that is too dang funny! It would be artwork and they couldn't do anything about that! Do it!

Re: I fought the law and the law won
blazer72, I know what you mean. The okc ghestopo, ie code enforcment officers, are a pita! I have had to deal with them. I agree have a mural painted of the trucks on the fence just to mess with them. And I have thought of putting a couple of engine blocks in the yard with flowers planted in the cylinders to piss them off.

Re: I fought the law and the law won
I'd never make it in the city. I'm afraid there would be bloodshed before it was all over. Those laws are completely ignorant and worthless, (along with the people that make and enforce them). A person buys property, but the neighbors don't like what he has or what he doing, so he can't do it? If that's the case, I should be able to file a complaint when the neighbors fat, ugly wife comes outside. I don't like it so she shoudn't be able to do it! (Just an exampleguys... ) Total BS as far as I'm concerned.

Re: I fought the law and the law won
I thought this was a free country?? Man doesn't seem that way to me. A working man, can't have anything without being hasseled.
Sure i could see if you back yard was a danger zone, But looked like you at least had them in there neatlly with the grass mowed down around them. Yeah I agree with the mural, but I liked the idea of making them flower beds in the front yard too. That would be funny!!!! |

Re: I fought the law and the law won
At least you got to keep the trucks!
In Austin the law is that you can have stuff like that if it's fenced off. Some guy with a travel trailer had his in the yard and got complaints. So he built a fence according to city ordinance and painted it bright pink or something really obnoxious. The neighbors were a hell of a lot better off with just the trailer sitting there but then they had to go and piss him off. |

Re: I fought the law and the law won
Welcome to the police state- please leave your personal expressions and apptitude at the door -- and like someone else stated "They'll go after you because they know YOU have money" - b'tards is right! Now, go around town and take pics of all the town council members lawns - be it boats, campers, motorcycles, etc.... bring it up at the town board meeting and see if the enforcement officer will go out again and check the "offensive" yards... I HATE someone telling someone else what they can and can't do with their own property... If I'm going to bring down your property value, MOVE.... yoiu don't pay my taxes or any other bills I have for that matter! I'm sure knowing you are moving out for some reason is making my property value go down..... I can't understand why some chose to live in neighborhoods where your NEIGHBORS can pick what color you can paint your front door!!! Wheew.... need to cool down... I'm hung up with a tranny problem right now, waiting to see if anyone can help me in my post.... I need to have a drink........ sorry all, started to rant there.....
