Soft Top Question
Do soft tops "go bad" if they are just sitting in the box for a while? I'm looking at buying an unused soft top, but its been sitting in the box for 10 years. Are there any problems that I might encounter?

Re: Soft Top Question
I guess it would depend on the environment in which it was stored. The vinyl my get brittle, but I would think that it being in the box would keep it from most factors that could cause it to get brittle, like the sun or electrical ozone.

Re: Soft Top Question
It's garage-kept in the midwest, so probably exposed to a pretty large temperature range.

Re: Soft Top Question
A mouse moved into mine and chewed a hole in the rear flap.

Re: Soft Top Question
I hadn't even considered the mouse factor. Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Soft Top Question
If it is cheap enough, you could could probably get the vinyl part remade. The hardware is the hardest part to make and you can use the old top as a template.
As of right now, there is only one choice for new soft tops - Bestop.

Re: Soft Top Question
I agree with bouncytruck - if the material is in bad shape it can still be used for a pattern - the hardware is the part that is really important. Any idea what brand it is?

Re: Soft Top Question
This one isn't cheap enough to make it worth buying and getting a new piece of fabric cut. Its a tiger top (if it were a fast track type, I'd be much more inclined to pick it up).
