Oversized radiator

On my 79 blazer, It will want to overheat mostly when stopped and when outdoor temperatures are over 110 degrees (arizona) It has a new 160 degree tstat and flush. If I run a 195 t-stat, (for MPG) it over heats easier. I am thinking it is the fan clutch. Also, it has a slow leak in the center of the radiator. Are the radiators from the larger trucks bolt in? I want to run an electric fan, and remove the mechanical fan.
It is starting to get hotter now, and I know I will have to start keeping an eye on the gauge again, until it's fixed.

Two Questions:
If I put in an oversized radiator, wouldn't it hardly even need any fan? I mean using one "meant" for a 454 engine, on my little 305 engine.

Is a larger radiator, on a bigger engine truck, bolt in?

To put in a 4 row radiator you will obviously need the radiator, but also the two lower mounting pads, two upper pads, radiator top bracket, and shroud. You may be able to re-use your hoses, if not, you will have to find two that will work. I believe 400 equipped trucks had the big radiator...so if you ask for hoses for a truck with a 400 you should be all set.

Even with a larger radiator, you will still need a fan. Putting in elec fans might be cheaper, but keeping things simple and mechanical might be easier.

So can I assume all 4 row radiators are the same? Thanks for the advice

How do you know if you already have a 4 row radiator? mine is about 4 inches thick

The easiest way to tell if you have HD cooling is to look at the top. With HD cooling, the radiator bracket is flat, coming off the top of the radiator support. The standard cooling bracket bolts to the inside, and is "L" shaped.
