Question Anyone ever installed NV4500 in a 67-72

Another thought I had was, can you install a NV4500 5 speed in a 67-72 4x4? I have seen the NV4500 mated to an NP 205 before so that is not the problem, but what about where the shifter would come through the floor? Will it work in this cab year? And if it did you would then go to the hydraulic clutch system, big improvement, plus extra mileage. Just dont know if it is feasible!? Any thoughts?

Re: Anyone ever installed NV4500 in a 67-72

Im doing it as we speak in my burb there is a great write up on this site for the 2wd convertion for the hydro cluch set up. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=212959 Im using a 2wd trans and a devorced transfer case for my swap its alot cheeper. If I get a chance this week I take some pics and put a quick write up on were Im at right now with the swap. Im at a stand still until I pick up my transfer case and get some parts I ordered for the nv4500.

Im using a devorced 205 transfer case. The trans is not conected to it so you can use any 2wd trans with it.

Earl, great link on the boards about this. I brought it back up to the top because they never told us how it came out.

I'm using a custom 205 transfer case houseing to match the round 6 bolt pattern to my NV4500 rather than using an adapter if you are looking to run a married unit. The set up uses a 32 spline short shaft direct to the input gear, eliminating a female coupler.

All you have to do is find a new 205 out of a 89 to 91 I think 1ton and it will bolt to a 4x4 trans problem is there hard to find and most sell for $500 +. If you have a long wheel base truck the cheapest way to go is the divorced 205 and the 2wd nv4500. for a married unit if you can find the newer 205 case at a reasonalbe price its the best way to go. I looked for one for a year and then gave up and decided to go with the devorced unit.

Re: Anyone ever installed NV4500 in a 67-72

I`m considering taking the 6.5TD(300horse)/NV4500* from my`92 K3500 for a swap and selling off the truck.I figure,it`s titled as a 1t diesel and a guy can take that and throw any gas motor he wants(no emissions)and do a solid front axle swap to build an awesome`92 4wd.Here in Maryland, lift laws only pertain to under 10,000GVW(1/2 & 3/4t).
*I`ve replaced the trans once, about 100,000 on it now. And,I have a 15,000mile trans that has a busted case for fresh spare parts(wrecked my`95).
The motor is a Peninsular Marine 18:1 with custom injector/turbo system with under 25,000 miles.
I could stay with the NP241.I have the original in the`92(240,000mi),one with 125,000 that needs syncronizers from the`95,and the crate unit I repaced that one with that has under 20,000 miles on it.I`d go this way if I could get a deal on a Ford Dana60.I have two sets of GM 1t axles already, but no late model NP205.
I have one set of the GM axles dedicated to a project. But,I`d consider swapping the other for a Ford axle. It`s rusty(the rear, too),but it`s got a TruTrac.
What would you do???

Re: Anyone ever installed NV4500 in a 67-72

With me the Trans decided it all. I found a 2wd Trans for a good price and was able to do some trading for a divorced 205 my front axle is a d60 out of a DRW k30. If I was you and I had a d60 at my disposal already I would look for a late model 205 or a 208 from a m1009 it drops on the correct side and should be an easy find.
I think the set up I have will work great for me but my burb is long so I have the room for the drive lines to do it this way. I’m hoping to get the body off the frame soon and get the frame blasted down so I can start putting it together. One cool thing about the 2wd trans I have is its one with the built in parking break so I will be able to use regular calipers on my rear end and I don’t have to pay the extra cash for Eduardo calipers. I still have not decided if I’m going to use the stock bell housing and hydro clutch or if I’m going to use the advanced adaptors bell housing that lets you use the stock clutch linkage.
