Can I use kerosene to soak my carb in? I need to rebuild my AFB on my 69, and I have kerosene in the garage. So is it ok to use it? I need to get this done because I just got a another notice for the sniffer test.

Here I am trying to have it sleep for the winter, now I have to take it out in the salt and get it tested. . .

you can, but kerosene is a mild solvent, and it won't remove everything. get you some berryman carb cleaner, (1 gallon for less than 10 bucks) it'll clean everything and won't harm any hard parts. it will harm your hands though, so be careful.

Where do you get that? I have beedn having problems getting any sort of carb dip in my aera. When I did find some, it was around $40 for a quart!!!!!

AutoZone has a one-gallon container with a basket. You will probably have to get two gallons and a different container that will have enough room for your AFB.

Also, Gunk used to sell some stuff called "S-C", which stood for Super Concentrate. There were instructions on how to use it and dilute it for use. It rinsed off with warm-to-hot water, and smelled like every old garage you ever went to with your grandfather. But, it worked good and was reasonable.

One word about that berrymans. Nothing and I mean NOTHING works better for cleaning carburetors. The only problem with the stuff is that if you have an attached garage and enjoy your marriage ( or at least pretend to ) then do not open it and use it inside your garage. That stuff is the simgle worst smelling automotive related substance that I can think of and the smell goes everywhere and stays for weeks.

I've worked in some pretty nasty chemical plants in the past and my sense of smell is pretty well fried from contact with anhydrous ammonia, hydrochloric acid, dimethylamine and formaldehyde but I can smell Berrymans carb Cleaner no problem. Us it outside away from your dwelling.
