inop fuel guage?

I have replaced the sending unit with brand new and put a new aftermarket fuel guage in and when I hook it up it says I have a full tank and its almost completely empty. I have jumped the wires strait from the sending unit up to the guage under the hood and used the battery as the power source to eliminate a short to ground and still guage reads full...What next?

Re: inop fuel guage?

did you goof and get a 90 ohm sending unit? I see from your sig you should have a 30 ohm for your truck, just a thought.

Re: inop fuel guage?

Sounds to me like something's grounded that shouldn't be. Pinched wire somewhere perhaps?

Re: inop fuel guage?

its for a 60-66 chevy truck so I would think its the right one but I dont' know. As for the pinched wire I wired it strit to the battery with jumpers from the tank and got the same results.
