Attention all Grant Steering wheel installers!

I have posted a few times in the past about my Grant wheel install and my horn problem (battery draining). When I bought my truck it had a 91' S-10 factory wheel on it and the horn was not connected and didn't work. All I did was remove that wheel and install my new Grant. Here is the question: Do I need these factory parts in the pic attached to make the horn work correctly and prevent battery drain?. My horn works right now WITHOUT these parts BUT my battery dies. I'm thinking that little plastic insulator might be my problem. Did you guys REUSE these parts?. Thanks.........Jim

Not sure if you need those or not, but I am sure that Grant horn kits SUCK! And yes, that's what I really think!

Your horn should not be your battery drain as all it the parts in wheel does is to make a ground for horn relay which then sends power to horns. If is was grounding your horns would blow all the time. Try this to find your battery drain--disconnect your ground cable at battery--hook a test light between battery cable and battery post--if there is a drain the light will glow--pull fuses one at a time until light goes out--when it goes out your battery drain is in this circuit which will make it easier to find. Hope this helps.

You don't need any of those things. My horn and turn signals work fine, I just followed the instructions they gave me. All you need from the original wheel is the cancelling cam and the turn signal apparatus, and the installation kit they gave you. Good luck!

i agree, if your horn were draining your battery, you would sure as hell here it. i put grants in two different trucks and both worked fine. you don't need the pictured parts either. when i put one on my 64, the old wheel didn't have any of those parts in it (just a bare steering wheel with no guts) and i put the grant on and the horn worked fine

Thanks guys. I just replaced the turn signal switch the other day and left all the horn contacts unconnected to prevent the battery drain. I guess I'll reconnect the horn stuff and wait a few days to see if the switch was part of the problem all along. The switch was causing other problems so maybe that had something to do with the horn as well. BTW barn9- I was going to get you a new Grant horn kit for X-MAS, but I guess I shouldn't.

I put a Grant wheel and kit on my 72 Suburban and it worked fine for a while and then suddenly (usually when I'm behind some big guy in traffic) the horn would start to blare! I'd smile and pull over and disconnect the horn. Later I'd plug the horns back up and it would be fine for a few days. Then one night about 3 am I heard this horn blowing. Thought it was my neighbors (they blow their horn all the time) but it was the Suburban sitting in the driveway. Anyway, I unhooked it and havn't fooled with it for months. Maybe I'll work on it in the spring.
