Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

I just bought this Blazer and wanted to know if aux tanks were a dealer option or just a creative PO addition. Has tanks on both side but nothing listed on the option sticker in the glove box, but, looks like set ups I've seen on trucks. What do ya think?

Re: Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

There were several different aux tanks for Blazers. Some were dealer installed, some were aftermarked. My '72 has the Hickey rear side tanks. From my understanding, they were dealer installed and as far as I know, dealer installed items don't appear on the build sheet.

Re: Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

Any pics of how their mounted underneath?

How many gallons per side?

Don't believe they were ever offered as a factory option tough.

Re: Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

Definetly not a factory option. Easy way to tell is the RV doors. The factory installed spair tanks, (witch Blazers never got) all gave fillers to match the main tank. The one that you have shown in the picture looks to me to be one that government Blazers had commenly installed, where they cut out over 1/2 of the rocker box assemblies to install. That makes the door opening weak especialy one the body mount bushings ware out. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

My reason exactly for asking to see a pic of the underneath.

Hoping he was spared.

Re: Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

Thanks for the response guys, I think. Doesn't sound good, cutting out over half the rocker boxes. I haven't gotten the Blazer here yet, still waiting for it arrive from WY. I will post pics of the underside when it gets here, but here are a few pics I have. Oh, and WES, you may want to get a set of rocker boxes packed and ready to ship.

Re: Blazer Aux Gas Tanks?

The good news is that WES sells new rocker boxes (if you need them). He was instrumental in getting reproductions manufactured as well as a few other choice Blazer repops (and he's a good guy too). Just don't take the top off until you determine if they need to be replaced. Still looks like a fairly solid/unmolested rig.
