Clutch linkage/headers for 4x4?

What kind of clutch linkage mods do you do to a 67-72 4x4 to run normal length headers, not shorties? I know you need to do some stuff, but was wondering if anyone had any pics or experience with putting headers on a manual tranny 4x4 truck, and what you need to do to the clutch linakge. Thanks for the help.

I'v seen people drill a new hole in the mount on the frame for the z bar (about 1" behind the original)

Whoa, wait a second. The z-bar mount is up by the motor on that truck. Mine had the pivot ball that goes into the bellhousing on both the V6 bell and the aluminum bell that came with the 350. It's nowheres near the motor. But, on the cast iron bell I've got that came off a 292, that doesn't have a pivot ball on it period.

I can do a bellhousing mock-up tomorrow, maybe I won't even need to frig with the clutch linkage at all to swap in the v8 and or run headers.

I have a '71 Jimmy 4x4 with a 350, sm465, np205. I have Heddman hedders and a Centerforce II clutch. When we put in a new crate 350 with headers and Centerforce clutch, we had to extend the lower clutch pushrod [a welded splice w/ a section of old gun barrel as a reinforcement] and also joggled the ears of the Z-bar to miss the header.

I think Headman Elites fit.But,in the past I`ve cut the arm off the z-bar and welded it out of the way.It`s really no BFD.

I put the aluminum bellhousing on to see if it will work with the stock clutch linkage, and it will, which means I don't even need to frig with the clutch linkage at all to swap in a 350, and I think I can run normal headers just fine. I'm not real big on using the aluminum bell, but it will save me one hell of a lot frigging and gumping.

Jakes,i was wondering. how is the z-bar mounted on the bellhousing, if it is i believe the bar will hit the firewall/cab. The bellhousing is under the cab, also the clutch rod would have to go through the floor and not the firewall like it is designed to do.I know it may work on a 6 but not an 8.any pics? mine is stock factory and the z-bar is mounted under the sparkplugs. but i would like to move it out of the way.

I'll see if I can get you some pics of it today, 3/4tonterror. The z-bar is pretty close to the cab, nowheres near the motor, but it never hit the cab before with the V6 in.
