Gas smell inside cab
Im having a problem with a gas smell inside my truck. This is not the actual question Im getting at, but leads up to it. Anyhow, I have changed all my rubber fuel lines on the engine and fuel pump (at least I think I have). Anyhow gas smell is still there. When I bought the truck back in 94 or 95 I had the same problem and needed to change the O-Ring on top of the gas tank. So Im thinking maybe I need to do that again.
Now here's the question. My fuel guage quit a couple years ago, I'm thinking I need to change the float. Do you change this in the same spot at the top of the gas tank where you change the O-Ring? If so I want to do that at same time. Also does tank need to be empty when changing the float out? |

Re: Gas smell inside cab
and make sure you don't have a vented tank, your cab/filler neck seal is good and tight, and your cap makes a good seal. vapors can bounce from the cap and back into the cab if your neck seal/cap are not air tight..

Re: Gas smell inside cab
tank doesn't have to be empty just about half way down so it under the sender so no gas has to come out

Re: Gas smell inside cab
Well I know when I bought it, it did have the gas smell. I changed out the O-Ring and gas smell was gone. Came back every now and then when a rubber fuel line would pop a hole in it, change that out and smell gone. This time smell hasnt gone away, so Im thinking the O-Ring needs changed again. Its about 12 years old or so now. Thing I hate about that though, is my seat adjuster has always been broke and so seat is held in place by a screw, which is a pain to mess with. So if I'm gonna pull screw and have to align seat again when done, I might as well fix the float while Im at it.
