Instrument Cluster Replacement
I've decided to replace my instrument cluster with
a custom setup. The tach, oil, temp and ammeter guages are available at a number of parts houses. I'm fabricating my own instrument panel. My problem is the speedo and the fuel guage. I'm told that Autometer makes a speedo but I've never seen it in any of the local parts houses. I also don't know if its electrical or mechanical. I'd like to stick with a mechanical speedo since the cable is already there. I'm stumped on the fuel guage. Is that impossible to do...or is there an aftermarket fuel guage available? And would that require changing the fuel sending unit? Anybody with any experience doing this? Jim M. Mt Juliet, TN ![]() |

autometer does make speedos in either electric or mechanical. summit and jegs both have quite a few in their catalogs. as for the fuel guage autometer has quite a few choices and im pretty sure most aftermarket guages are setup to work with the chevy style sending unit but im not totally positive on that. also a few people on here have done what u are doing maybe on of them will respond and be able to help you out a little better.

I used the Autometer #2514, 2 1/16" diameter, electrical fuel gauge, 0 ohm empty, 90 ohms full. It works with the original GM sending unit.
They have several styles to choose from, all of which have a part number to work with a GM sender. Take a look at www.autometer.com. Good Luck, Kent
