Replacing water pump on 84 C10 w/ 4.1L
My son's truck is leaking antifreeze, and while I haven't had a chance yet to see where it is coming from, I suspect it is the water pump since it is either the original (truck has 147k miles) or at least very old. Anyway, is it very difficult to replace? I've replaced others, but not on this vehicle yet. Any surprises I should look out for? I think I will go ahead and replace the thermostat too, as they are pretty cheap. Thanks for any help. This site is a wealth of information, although it seems that most of you with early 80's C10's have different engines in them. Oh well!

Re: Replacing water pump on 84 C10 w/ 4.1L
Just replaced the water pump in my 1980 C10 w/250 a couple weeks ago. I replaced the belts and radiator hoses and flushed the radiator at the same time. I just followed the Haynes instructions and it took about two hours. I needed an extra set of hands a couple times but it was pretty staight forward. The only thing I would watch out for is that you don't use to much gasket adhesive, supposedly if you use to much it can contaminate your antifreeze.
