71 blazer-4wd to 2wd
Starting a new project, looking for some help from those who may have done this before. We have a 71 blazer (pretty sure it's a 71) 4x4, which has the transfer case and transmission out of it, and are looking to convert it to 2wd when we put it back together.
Wondering about which parts are interchangeable from other year blazers and/or pickups, especially truck arms and front control arms,tie-rods, etc. I know someone has done this before, and appreciate any thoughts and help you can offer. Also, if anyone knows of any links where this information may be, we would really appreciate that-thanks. |

Welcome from St. Augustine, FL. That should be a fairly easy conversion from what I have read the crossmembers need to be swapped but alot of the parts you already have will fit.

The front crossmember and steering setup will bolt in from '63-'87('91 for Blazers and 'burbs.) I would lean towards '71-up for disc brakes, and strongly consider '73-up for the rubber bushed control arms and cheaper, more readily available parts. Trailing arms from '63-'72 will work. This will require some fab for the upper spring mounts. Everything else is basically bolt in. Quick and easy would be to flip the rear axle on top of the springs out back.

I have a semi-detailed write up on converting to trailing arms somewhere(I need to finish it.) Also, try doing a keyword search on "conversion" in the Blazer forum. Thanks, Chris-and everyone. Def want to go with the disc brakes up front...we've been doing some digging thru these boards, lots of help here. Still a ways from being ready to put her back together, but you have to start somewhere...
