Here ya go.

When the rockers were still intact, I did a support running from the cage to a plate on the lower portion of the firewall. (1st/2nd pic)

This tied nicely into the vertical tube I ran from the floor brace.
All welded together, made for some nice triangulation.

The firewall has zero flex now and the doors open/shut like new.

Re: Rocker boxes

There was an old thread, from before they started reproducing the rocker boxes, where someone built a "cage" out of 1x1 square tubing, I'll do a search and see if I can find it.

Weld it to both the floor and the inside of the inner kick panel...problem solved.
The ones on my blazer now are in decent shape with the exception of a few holes the PO put in them to reach seat mounting bolts. But I would rather just eliminate them & be done with it. The tubing is more my style too.
I know they were originally for strength & support, but of what...what exactley are they supposed to be tying together??

Re: Rocker boxes

I'm not 100% positive, but pretty sure it is added support for the firewall/cowl area for when the top is removed. Also extra support for the main tub to keep it straight for the door openings. I think thats why it runs from almost wheel well to wheel well.

On my orange blazer is what I did is spot welded 3/8 x 3" steel up inside the kick panel, 1 x 2" tubing on the door latch side, and then jioned them together with a piece of 1x2 behind the rockers. It's worked well for 5 years.

I have to look out for my company also. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

better for the country too man! outsourcing is not the best thing to do. do you make these in house or have a fab shop make them to your specs?
