It took 10 years, but I finally fixed them!
It's one of those little things you never really pay attention to, but is a cool feeling when you get them working.
Back in NY I needed the back-up lights to work, but the PO hacked all the wiring and put a floor shift in for the 'ole 3 speed. So I added a goofy looking toggle switch on the dash. I more than once (ok, many times) accidentally left them on Then I moved to SC and NO MORE INSPECTIONS! So no more working lights, especially after I painted the bed, I didn't bother to hook them up I had some free time while the primer was drying on the dash yesterday, so I ran a wire from my fuse box to my Lokar floor shift switch and then another one from the shifter switch to the back-up lights. I had to ground the lights and viola! Back-up lights! Thanks for reading

Nice! Yeah, I'm running w/o back up lights these days also... But no inspections, so no real incintive to fix them.

^Yeah, that's the same problem I had
The pic doesn't do the lights justice. I had the flash on I painted the housings white and those little boogers are BRIGHT!

Very nice! Now you won't get pulled over anymore for having white lights on while driving, and people won't get frustrated at you for not having seen you backing up out of a parking space until the last minute, due to not having reverse lights.
I fixed mine last year also and feel much better about it-no more worries like I've described.

I've got a big mag-lite I shine out the back window for back-up lights! But seriously where is the switch located on a four speed tranny? P.O. swapped trannies and never hooked up.

If it's a truck tranny (3 speed with granny low) it's on the driverside near the top near the belhousing. If I recall correctly, the wire to the switch is green.

Congrats on getting your backup lights working. Fixing my backup lights is on my list of things to do also, but so far they are pretty low on the priority list.
Hopefully since I decided to quit working for a while I will be able to spend some more time on my '71 C-10 Daily Driver. First though I have to work on the #1 priorty, at least my wife says so, is to get the 16'x24' craftroom built before Thanksgiving. Danny - Southeast Missouri |

I never had them on any of my trucks, so on this one, I wired them to a toggle. After leaving them on like descrobed above, i replaced the toggle with one that has a red LED in the tip. Now only once in a while do I forget about them.

I hate to say this but...... aren't any of you guys smart enough to wire that toggle switch to a switched power terminal on the fuse block???Then even if you leave them on they go off when the switch is turned off.

mine is hooked to the factory power, so they DO turn off with the key, but that don't help when there's a cop behind you and your back up lights are on. (no one mentioned the lights staying on when they go inside or anything)

Man, you guys have to have reverse lights for state inspections? That blows. We have inspections here (but not for long I hear), but reverse lights are not required...I am a lisenced state inspector here in MO...

Mine were on keyed power, but that doesn't help when you turn them on to back up and drive around for a half hour when they're on, still forget, shut the truck off, start up the next day with them on and not remember I think I drove with them on for like a week once
No more inspections here in SC since like '96, but it's just one of those things that should work
