Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

Here is what he said about the motor and trans.

The engine and tran are solid. The engine is not the original but it is a 350 that came out of a 79 or 80 corvette. It is a 4 bolt main and has been bored .30 over and balanced. My uncle has the receipts and says he spent $3500 on just the motor (of course that is easy to do these days). It has an edlebrock aluminum intake and carb. It runs very strong. The cam is a little more than stock but it idles smooth. The trans is a 350 turbo and has been rebuilt as well. The rear end (I think) is a 3.08 gear. It has a lot of top end. thanks for asking.

I personally would not want to finish someone elses project. Not a big fan of purple either.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

Thanks for the replies, I guess I was looking at the wrong stuff. I was seeing no rust, new interior, rebuilt drivetrain w/receipts, and the nasty purple

It's tough seeing project that looks like th have a lot of money in it that we might pick up for a value price, but when they are in pieces it is really hard to get a judge on exactly what you are getting.

I agree body looks decent and sounds like a lot, but..............

Well, I'm glad I talked to you guys, I almost bought it. His reserve is 3000 and he was going to hold it for me to pick up.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

I think it would be a good deal for someone that has the resources to finish it. The seller may also have stuff that goes with the truck that he didn't list, most people do. The purple is tolerable at best, and unless you are going to sell it at that big name car auction, I think it would definitely make a solid base for a nice truck.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

Cdowns what's wrong with the vin tag? That aside, I think it's a good deal for less than $3000. Even "if" you have to buy another $2000 worth of parts, $5000 in a nice solid SWB is not bad. I know you will have a really hard time finding one in that good of shape (if it is as nice in person as in the pictures) in our area. Even if you bought it and decided not to build it, you could part it for quite a bit more than that. Just my .02 cents.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

as you can clearly see it doesnt have original factory rivets and if they removed for painting why the overspray?

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

I asked him what it needed to be streetable and he said
I guess if the bumpers were put back on, the seat fastened to the floor, seat belts fastened back in, and tags... oh and it's about out of gas. The truck has set idle for a while and the tires have flat places so it's not a smooth ride currenty.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

I would put all the little stuff together first, before I tried to sell it

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

It isn't "going cheap" ... the reserve price hasn't been met yet.

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

You are correct, Please consider this post as changed to "Why aren't more people bidding on this" or "3000 reserve, what do you think".

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

if you already got it that far, whats so hard about spraying the outside with some paint, and putting it back together... all the hard works done, seem like he could sell it for alot more, with just a little more time in it

Re: Why is this going for so cheap?

If the VIN is good, sheet metal rust free and the motor good...it appears to be an awesome deal for someone with the ability to finish it!
