Chatter
I put a front d-shaft I aquired in the K5 today. 203. It mounted fine and I put a new u-joint in the front. I did not replace the 2 u-joints on the knuckle if the shaft.
I have a serious chatter. I cant drive it. I get up to 10 mph and the front end feels like it wants to fall out. I know the 203 is full time and I do not have manual lock hubs. Is there a problem with the knuckle? Or do I have a problem with the axle? Without the F-shaft, the truck is fine. This is my first full time. I have always had manual hubs. If if need to convert it, now is the time as I have 2 dana 44 sitting on my trailer. Please help. I need to keep the wife happy with the Blaz right now. Thanks

Re: Chatter
Do you have the two halfs of the shaft lined up it sounds like the slip joint is off a little bit.
Or the gears are diffrent sizes in the diffs. |

Re: Chatter
Put it up on jack stands in D and let it idle while your watch the front end rotate, maybe you'll find the problem.
Sounds like something is binding. |

I only have 2 jackstands and the wont reach the frame. I would not want to put them under the axle if there might be an issue there. That could get exspensive. I will post a pic of the driveshaft angle and the d shaft knoukle as I think that is the problem.

Or go out and buy some good jack stands, always a tool worth having. Last edited by vtblazer; 05-24-2007 at 02:17 PM. |

Re: Chatter
I have thought about buying some more jackstands.
Does the angle on this knuckle look to be to much? I think the u-joints in it are bad. It was a little stiff to move when I put it in.

Re: Chatter
Is it "clocked" with the front u-joint?No,that`s a mild angle that would present no problems at all.VT`s suggestion would be my first course of action. You need 4 good stands. You could tether your rig for safety, also remove the wheels, place blocks....If you`re still nervous,it`s go to a shop with a lift time.I have a chatter in my rear and I`m putting it up on 4 stands to check.I have a set of smaller stands for under axle and a set of larger for under frame. They are the welded angle 4-legged type with the cast upright(?).I use stamped stands to hold up trailer tongues, that`s about it.

Re: Chatter
Sorry it took so long to get back. I took the driveshaft to a shop to look at and we determined the slip yolk is shot. They want 150.00 to replace the shaft and yolk. It will be a liitle before I have it done as I am trying to get a Carburated Vortec 350 ready to go the the mach shop.
