4x4 Longhorn?

How many 4x4 Longhorns were made? Has anyone ever converted one from 2wd to 4wd? Would it be the same as a c10-20? thanks

Re: 4x4 Longhorn?

I believe there is a board member in CA doing a Longhorn 4x4 conversion. It will probably be the first and only.

No, I've seen them pop up on here from time to time. I'm sure Andy has a few pics stowed away somewhere.

Re: 4x4 Longhorn?

I have at least one on my site, and I've seen (on line) 4 or 5 converted.
Converting one would be the same as converting any other 67 - 72, although, it already has leafs in back, so i guess it's a bit easier than most of the conversions.

Re: 4x4 Longhorn?

I guess he would rather start with a frame already 4wd and lengthen it,than try to get everything set up right converting to 4wd..Me,I'd start with a longhorn frame, shove a dana 60 under there and add springs, shock mounts, spring hangers, etc

Re: 4x4 Longhorn?

Remember that the Longhorn frame is actually a 1 ton frame with the big cross section due to the added wheelbase. The 3/4 ton frame might be a little bouncy at 133 inches.

Nobody thinks these frames flex but I had 1/4" crease in the cab of my '82 swb 4x4 to prove that they will readily flex enough for the box to hit the back of the cab...compliments of the sand hill climbs at Pismo Beach...LOL!

Re: 4x4 Longhorn?

My friend`s was built from a Longhorn with 4wd parts added/converted.The body had never left the frame and had original red orange/white paint.

I figured that, but I have been converting them for years (not a longhorn though) and never really had much of a problem. Even drove them while in the middle of the conversion. I think adding a 6'' piece to a frame would be a little bit of a challenge getting everything back up square. But who knows?

Oh, they flex alright. A buddy of mine has a '78 3/4 ton 4x4 with 8" of lift, and I've seen that thing almost twist in half going over some nasty terrain.
