power steering help needed
We put a rebuilt ps pump in my son's truck. It worked all right for a short time, and has gradually gotten worse. Now it only works at hi rpm's. Someone told me you have to use parts off the old one?? Bolts or seals or something? Any insight....thanks, Al

The problem could be in the PS box. I would take the pump back for exchange, and if the new one works, then that was your problem. If the problem still exists with the new pump, look to change out your box. Is the belt slipping? Did you use all of the brackets from the donor truck? Does the pump look like it is mounted straight?

Re: power steering help needed
It's been almost a year since purchase(i think it was a 90 warranty), no belt slippage, mounted on same brackets. The old pump blew the seal and was spraying PS fluid everywhere. Prior to that it drove perfectly.
Something I forgot to mention. The truck has a serp belt. I didn't check for reverse rotation, but it worked after install,........?

Where the pressure hose is mounted on the pump is an kind of plug you can screw out, and could be different as the old pump. I don't remember if it has a little hole or a valve in it.
You can mount the one from the old pump and try. |
