Re: My 68 custom project

Check it out! brother from another mother! I've been snooping on the boards for a few months, but I had to join up when I saw your truck. Look Familiar? I've done a lot to it since these pictures, but not much is visible from the outside except the removal of the purple tint in these pictures. My setup is a little different: BB396/TH400/Coil Rear, but it's cool to see another butterscotch longbed.

Re: My 68 custom project

I took a pretty good look at yours... mine is a little more bent up.. there's some damage on the passenger door and the clip is tweaked a little.

I've only found one small spot of rust under the original floor mat where soil had collected... other than that it's all original metal without any body work. That's what you get from keeping it in New Mexico for the last 40 years.

I bought it a few months ago, after sitting behind the owner's grandma's house for 7 years.

Re: My 68 custom project

Perhaps I should clarify. The truck had been sitting behind the grandma's house... not me.

At Least you don't have rust to contend with !! Mine's been in Iowa it's whole life . I'm fortunate it's not rusted more than it is!! I love my truck so I will deal with the rusty rockers and cab corners!!

I was unaware of 50th anniversary status until today... what is there other than paint that makes us special?

Re: My 68 custom project

eh. I have a black seat cover with some very patchy vinyl underneath that suggests that it may have once been white and gold.

I have a friend who goes down to el paso almost every weekend to see family... I'm planning on having the seat re-covered at some point, and he says there's plenty of shops down there to do it (cheaply).

I'm having him research what leather is available. I'd like a similar finish to the Ford King Ranch brown saddle leather.

If your seats are original and 2 tone gold/white, than you can be sure that the seats at least... are from a 50th.
If you look on the spid label in the glove box, there's 2 things to look at to verify the 50th;
#551 Off white/gold
#627 Parch trim
Those are what makes a 50th a 50th. It is supposed to be on top of a custom or CST optioned truck also.
Oscar... I was told this by Andy.

Re: My 68 custom project

newton huh? i'm over in des moines. I also have an extra 68 hood if you mess yours up to badly. It's up in cedar falls, but i'm up there often enough that i could get it down here pretty easily. In fact, if you need it, i could have it down here next weekend.

good luck with the build man. you goin' to the good guys show next weekend?
