Will it damage the engine very badly to be driving around with a lifter going out in my truck?

not unless the lifter some how gets stuck in the lifter bore and keeps the valve open enough to smack into a piston.

Lifters are fairly cheap, why not replace it?

Have you tried cleaning the engine with an engine oil addative or flush? If the lifter is sticking, usually it'll free up.

I probably will replace it. I just dont have a lot of time right now to fix it.

I've put some in before but should probably do it again. Maybe that will fix it.

or chews up a cam lobe and spreads that magical camshaft dust throughout the engine. that's always good for things, NOT!
