Original 8 bolt white rims

Does any one know or better yet have a picture of the original white 8 bolt rims. I would like to know if they had a hub cap/chrome ring or were they just white with the lugs exposed.

Thanks
Joe

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

They have hub caps (there are bumps to hold them on about an 2 inches or so from the lugs).

I will take some pic's for you later, but looking at 5 of them (on my truck)..

Check with your local favorite automobile dismantler. I don't believe anyone is doing reproductions (wouldn't be a big market for them). Most people change them over to 5 lug these days..

you wouldn't want original anyways. mid to late 80's and into the 90's (including vans) is a better score. You'll get a 16 inch instead of 16.5 inch wheel, looks stock, holds stock hub caps, and holds MUCH cheaper tires.

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

On these trucks 16s were split rims and 16.5s weren`t.So,as mentioned, you`ll want later rims if you are going for 16s.I buy new ones at wheel and rim places.I have a set in mothballs that I had powdercoated white.

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

Anyone have pictures of a 8 lug 2 wheel drive that they have made look like the rally wheels?

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

There were no beauty rings for GM truck wheels until`88 when the factory went to the silver painted steel 16s with beauty rings and center caps that had exposed lugs making them a type of rallye wheel. The centers are held in place by using special duplex lug nuts that have external threads to accept plastic lugs to hold the centerson. These rims have no provision for earlier hub caps. These late-model center caps may be used on flat centered custom or aftermarket steel wheels using these duplex lugs. The factory uses metric. The aftermarket provides 9/16" for use on earlier models.

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

Beauty rings and rally wheels look out of place on 3/4 tons. I have never got use to the generic look of factory wheels without REAL hubcaps since the late eighties.

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

I'll soon have a set of 1971 stock 8 bolt 6.5 x 16.5 wheels after we finsh the conversion to later model 16 inch, I have a set of split rims off another truck and I'll bet neither are hardly worth their weight in steel. If I have to pay to get them dismounted and tire disposal is is going to cost more than they are worth.

Re: Original 8 bolt white rims

...until they`re hard to find from everyone tossing them. There will always be a demand for factory original pieces. The fan club may not be huge, but they`re out there.
