Hi, I have a 71' Cheyenne with a 350 SB that I am installing a stock heat riser on. Can anyone tell me if the couterweight and spring assembly on the heat riser is supposed to be on the front side of the manifold or the back when you install? You can bolt it up both ways, but I'm not sure which is right, and I can't find a picture. It's pretty easy to tell top and bottom, but front and back is confusing. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Turn it to the outside. That way you can tell if it is open or shut.

Would bolting it up with the assembly on the outside have been as it was from the factory? I thought it was either facing the front, or the rear?

I'm sure it would work either way, but does anyone have a pic of one installed as original or know if on the side is correct? Replacing all of this is a pain, and I just want to make sure I do it right the first time! Thanks!

You could always reach it from the outside to see if it was free. Never saw one turned in.

Mine was installed angled to the back when I got the truck. don't think it was ever off from the condition of the exhaust system and the fact it was stuck partly closed.
