Re: Tilt Column Shift Indicator Light Out Help....

If I'm not mistaken (someone correct me if I am) the shift indicator light had a fibre optic cable from one of the lamps in the dash.

I know on my 71, it has a fiber type cable that runs light from the back of the dash panel.(gauge cluster) I think it hooks up to the light for the speedometer or gas gauge.

Find the bulb in the dash that has the fiber optic wire hooked to it. That would be the one to change.

Re: Tilt Column Shift Indicator Light Out Help....

Wheels - Tilt columns use a regular bulb. It is located below the gear lens. 2 small phillips head screws will allow the lens housing to come off. The bulb is covered with a stainless piece that has a small slit that filters the light. Often times a green plastic cap also filters the brightness.

2 screws and a small pick is all you need.

Good luck - Bob

Re: Tilt Column Shift Indicator Light Out Help....

tilt is in the column, non tilt goes to the inst panel, should be the inner lamp on the fuel guage. if the dash lights work but no perndle light on a non tilt, then your fiber optic cable is either broken or disconnected.

Re: Tilt Column Shift Indicator Light Out Help....

No fiber optic on TILT columns. Just a small bulb mounted below the shift indicator. YOu might want to make sure the GREY wire is plugged into under the dash ---it is a single unique wire that comes down along with the tilt wiring harness. This wire is the source for the 12V going to the bulb. Make sure it is plugged in before you start taking things apart. Huck
