Would you buy this burb?

I found a rust free 69 3/4 ton 4x4 burb near me that has no interior except for the front seat. It's a 4 speed manual with a NP205 transfer case. Original height never lifted. It had a 350 in it originally and now has a 292 straight 6 that runs good. All the seals need replacing. No major dents or old bodywork that I could find. Needs a paint job and new tires. It does not have AC. And it's the tailgate style. The only rust is where it looks like water puddled in the rear lift up glass and it rusted through there a little.The guy is asking $1500 for it. Should I get it? Should I try to talk him down at all? How rare are 3/4 ton 4x4 burbs?

as you southwest guys know... Rust free is worth more than mechanical condition...

Migh be able to get him done a but due to the interior but that's a small issue....

Well I just got back from looking at it. He is firm on the $1500 price. The carb needs rebuilt as it was bubbling fuel out the top and bottom of it. I was able to drive it around and verify all the gears and the transfer case worked. The motor has good oil pressure. It may need to be rewired or it could just be blown fuses, the headlights and tail lights didn't work. Upon further inspection it does have a tiny bit of rust in the passenger rocker and the driver rear fender. Should be pretty easy to weld up. I just need to decide now if I want another burb project.

If I decide not to get it I'll post that up and PM the guys info to anyone that wants it.

Well I talked it over with the wife and with me in the middle of escrow on another house we decided it's probably not the smartest thing to be buying another project.

Shoot for $1200 if it sits better with you, but if it gets away, well it's not like they are making new ones. Ahhh the one that got away. Vehicle or a woman, everyone has a story. Mine well I have one of each , I'll tell one: it was a 68 camaro ss in 1991.

Well, if it's any help to you making your decision, here are the production numbers of the 3/4 Suburban 4X4's. It's one of only 545 made that year. Too bad it doesn't have the original engine - might be worth tracking it down.

The guy that has this Suburban is best friends with the original owner of the truck. So I can probably get the original block and rebuild it. This new info is making it really hard for me to not get this truck. I already PM'd a couple people with his #, so I now have competition for deciding.
