Re: 67 v8 swap
I did the v8 swap a few years ago, kept same 3 spd tranny, no big modifications, pretty certain I had no real problems and clutch linkage hooked right back up.

Re: 67 v8 swap
It should go in with a motor mount swap and tranny should hook right up also...Should be pretty straight forward...

Re: 67 v8 swap
what all do i have to do with the motor mounts for it to work.do i have to move them? can i keep the stock inline six towers? i noticed when readin other post that people state that the stock 250 towers will put the engine too far back to use a hei destributor. anything i need to do to make it fit RIGHT any fine details please post and i really appreciate it. and also my clutch linkage bolts to the side of the block of the inline six so how would that work? im just wondering cause the v8 has headers and it dont look like it has anywheres for the clutch linkage to bolt up to on the engine block. thanks for th replies so far.

Re: 67 v8 swap
yes the motor mounts are different for I6 and v8, but im usin the I6 mounts still and it does put the hei very close to the firewall. I did not have to change the clutch linkage, and I am running long tube headers, just have to find headers that will fit the truck.

Re: 67 v8 swap
The HEI dist Will fit in I6 position, but does fit tight. To swap a sb in as the factory did it , you need to replace the engine towers, & the crossmember under the bell, lenghten the d shaft, & swap in V8 clutch linkage. You can drop right in on the I6 stands, & it will save you some work/expense. I set my longhorn up on I6 stands to move some weight back, & prefer it that way. As far as the clutch linkage, there should be a pair of holes on the block to mount the bracket/ball pivot assy.....use the foward hole, for a screw in ball, & all of the v8 clutch linkage. A set of 69090 Hedman headers will fit in I 6 position. If you move the eng to factory sb spot, you will need 69092 headers to clear the linkage. best of luck, L

Re: 67 v8 swap
I've got my old 350 frame towers from when I did the opposite swap, PM me if interested in them, probably worth it to do it since the engine will already be out. They are easy to swap but, you will need to have the driveshaft lengthened because everything will move forward three inches. The frame was pre-drilled for the crossmember and shifter linkage on mine, but I'm not sure about the manual tranny crossmember, mine was an automatic.
All your accessories will need the V-8 brackets too, this should not be too much of a problem except maybe for the power steering, but V-8's common enough where you can get one. You will probably need a 350 fan shroud too. Use the flywheel and the starter from the L6 so you know they will all line up right. Too bad you are so far away, I might be interested in the 250!

Re: 67 v8 swap
I'm really surprised no one has done a FAQ on this. I will make the swap when my 250 farts out on me. I plan on using my 4 speed and I hope not to make any driveline mods.

Re: 67 v8 swap
when doing this swap couldnt you just go and find a drive shaft from a origianal v-8 truck? seems like it would be cheaper than having to add inches to one. is it the front shaft / or the rear on a lwb?? just wondering ,not to steal this thread but im going to do the same swap . but i want to run a 350 crate engine and a 350 trans, there are lots of donor trucks in the local scrap yard i could get a drive shaft from.

Re: 67 v8 swap
I am glad yall are giving some good input, I have always gotten frustrated when takin the cap off of the distributor because of the tight fit. I might think about goin back and doin it right. but then again if thats the only reason to change it, it can drop down a few notches on my things to do to the truck list.

Re: 67 v8 swap
2bits if you was closer i would do ya a good deal on the engine. the only thing that is wrong with the engine is one of the valve cover bolts are broke off in the head, and it blows out oil. i have another head that i can prolly put on it that aint in too bad of shape and fix the oil leak and drive it.

Re: 67 v8 swap
We just did a I6 swap to a 400 small block. It only took us a few days and its been well worth it. We used V8 motor mounts in the rear 2 holes of the frame. The clutch Z-bar linkage did not fit up to the motor as the I6 block was alot skinnier. The transmission bolts right into place and you do not need to do any tranny/driveshaft modifications. The only problem we ran into was the actual zbar linkage and we ran headers. Now we're in the process of rebuilding a TH350 to handle the 400 csb. Should be a great truck, good luck with everything.
