Airlines thru front crossmember?
Im wondering how you guys are getting the airline's to the front bags.. might be a dumbass question, but i cant see my truck (500 miles away) at builder, but am about to order my front bags & fittings and wanted to make sure i got everything.. thanks

any pics? Did you use a passthrough or just drill a hole and run the line through.I have some PTC pass through fittings but i have to drill a 15/16 hole for them..

i just used a step bit drilled a hole then covered the line in heater hose just in case

I JUST did this today! I'll post pics tomorrow. I went through the rear of the spring perches just above the brake lines and used a 1/2" ID grommet for my 1/2" air-line. I thought about a bulkhead fitting but I figured fewer fittings = fewer possible places to leak.

Here you go. The final pics with everything back together turned out pretty dim, so I'll have to get more of those. The line is routed behind the shock and I lined the entire length with harness liner for extra protection:

Looks good.. I know what your saying about the "less fittings" idea... I might do like you did.. I think the bulkhead would look pretty cool though, not that you can really see it once everything is in ... I used swivel 90's comming off my bags though..

If I had elbows I probably would have used them and drilled the grommet hole lower. I put the hole high enough to keep the line from kinking and low enough to keep it from touching anything. It's a tight little bend but doesn't kink. I massaged it over and made sure the radius would work before bolting the upper plate on.

Are there specific 'high temp' capable grommets for high temp areas like this?.
I used some 'generic' grommets to protect my door speaker wiring. After only 1 'season' of use, the grommets split & fell out leaving the speaker wire to rub the metal edge. If that's what happens in exterior heat, what would happen when exposed to under hood temps? I prefer the bulkhead type P.T.C fittings. But, like you guys mentioned, using these can add to the possibilities of air leaks. Since this area isn't exactly the easiest to navigate when trouble-shooting 'leaks' & I didn't feel comfortable w/the longevity of typical rubber grommets, I made 'custom' grommets using 5/16" fuel line. The fuel line passes through existing holes in the crossmember & I used nuts that are threaded on to the rubber to keep it in place where it passes through the c.member.

You make some good points Scoti. I don't claim to be an expert with this stuff, though I do work with pneumatic systems in my job they are not on automotive apps. So I'll definately be watching the grommets to see how they perform.
There are some bulkhead "pass-thru" fittings that look like normal bulkead fittings but the airline passes straight through without cutting. Those would be perfect for this. |

I routed mine like that, only I then fed it through the J-bar hole (large hole you see above the header) with a section of vacuum line over the top and ran the hose on the inside of the frame. It looked great and seem to work well.
I used a nylon version of the same cable hold downs.

Well i drilled the holse and used my Bulkheads tonight.. It looks good, we'll see if i have problems in the future..

I like the fittings and the frame and work looks good.
But i think unless you have some longtube or shorty headers that dump in the rear, it looks like your exhaust will be too close for the lines.

Yea i thought about that, my plans are to run rear dump S&P type III headers, I hope they clear.. If not back to the drawing board . I can run a 90 right off the xmember and get into the frame rail quicker if i need....

I just drilled mine straight through the top of the spring cup, right in line with the fitting on the bag. I cleaned up the hole pretty smoothe with a rasp, I plan on putting the valve as close to the bag as possible. I use this line on the pneumatics at work, pretty tough stuff. the pic is a temporary setup I made just for testing, but the hole is what I'll use.
