castrol is great but dont run synthetic in a high miler motor as it will go through oil. 10-30 Castrol is my choice

Shell Rotella T 15w40 and a wix 51061 filter.
-Lance Castrol does not have the zinc.

Either will work, but like was said a high mileage motor may have some leakage issues if you start running the synthetic. Shell Rotella for diesel engines (use in gas or diesel) is about the best conventional oil on the market right now.

Re: what type & WT oil for my '71 350?
The studies have put down that the Shell Rotell has the additives that a lot of other brands have removed from their oils. These additives are needed for the older motors to provide the proper lubrication for the conventional design bearings and valves. The new grades and the synthetics are a "TRI" molecule based oil and it is not carrying the basics that the older Dinosaur olis did.

Even the new Rotella is eliminating all the good stuff (zinc etc). All the new emissions stuff for diesels is making the oil manufac. remove it. GM eos additive is a good choice as well

I have always run Castrol 10w30 in my small block chevys. I'll have to check into the Shell stuff.
