still stymied by leaking brake hose
so I picked up some copper crush washers, but my new brake hose appears to still be leaking where it meets my new wheel cylinder.
I am starting to run out of ideas... |

Re: still stymied by leaking brake hose
By looking at your picture, you may not have enough clearance around the outside of the crush washer and the backing plate. Remove the brake hose, clean both surfaces on the hose and the wheel cylinder. Loosen the bolts that hold the wheel cylinder to the backing plate and try to center the cylinder with the hole and re-assemble with a new washer. I don't think that there is a major imperfection on the mating surfaces but check that while its apart. Good luck

Re: still stymied by leaking brake hose
that's a funny camera angle, but you may be right.
I have heard that copper work-hardens, which is probably why you mentioned using a new crush washer. but I have also read that if you have a torch, you can anneal the washer by getting it real hot and letting it cool naturally. then again, at this point I am ready to be done with this, and if buying a new crush washer everytime I take this thing apart is an easy way to eliminate another variable from this equation, then it is probably worth the cost. |
