Speaker Sound Off
I'm sure everyone has their own opinions on speakers, but before i shell out some money i want to be sure i don't get K-Mart sounding cheapies. I'm using a 60w in-dash (made for these trucks) with 6 1/2 in in the doors (no i'm not cutting the door bottoms) installed in the door panels. I'm looking at using some 3ways and then an amp (for the subs) under the seat and some 8"subs. If theres room under there. So what do you guys have that fits and sounds good. I'm not interested in the big thumpin bass just a decent sounding ride.

The only thing to watch out for with the 6-1/2's in the doors is vibration from the bass. All I have for speakers right now is a pair of Infiniti 652i's in the doors, powered by the Aiwa CDC-X136 head unit...I plan to add a sub or two under the seat. I'd like to do just one 10" if I can find a good one that's shallow enough. I mostly want it not so much for the bass (which would be nice, though; I've listened to my friend's setup in his late-model Sonoma with one 10" and it hits plenty hard enough) as it is for cutting down on the vibrations caused by the low frequencies. My dad mounted them in the doors themselves, though, below the panels...
If I had a fresh start to go off of, I'd go with kickpanel speakers. Whenever I get a chance to do another paintjob on this thing, I'll have the holes welded and go that route. Someone emailed me plans for a sub box that fits under the seat; I forget who at the moment. If you see this, would you mind if I posted the pic of the plans here? Almost forgot. Those 652i's sound so good, another friend of mine - who's always had one of the better soundsystems in the school, first in his Volvo wagon (lol! car fell apart), then his Accord (his brother totaled it), and now his Mustang (at least it's American!) - actually commented on how much bass there was from just two speakers like that. ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/ [This message has been edited by Project1970 (edited May 13, 2002).]

Or..Does anybody know the max mount depth for the kick panel that have a place for 6.5's speakers.......was discussed a while back but I did not book make the topic.

My setup is in my profile. If you want a shallow sub you'll have to get something that uses a neodymium (sp?) magnet. As far as the mounting depth ph those kickpanels i'm afraid i dont know. If you want i can tell you my sub box dimensions etc. just let me know if you are interested.

I'd be interested in how you made your sub boxes and fit them under the seat. It looked like about 5" is as tall as they can be.

Yep about 5" is it. These boxes are 11x11x5 i think (i'll check later) and you have to cut the wire that connects the slider piece for the seat. With this you'll have to move each side of the seat individually. With these boxes in it pushed on the springs a li'l bit so the ride is a li'l jigglier but heck the 2 10's kick dang nice. Due to their small requirements for volume i chose to run them sealed so you feel more than you hear. If you want more 'sound' from the subs then you can run them open air setup. It's a tight fit but they are in there and do real well. e-mail me if you want exact measurements and such. ohh i used .5" MDF instead of .75" MDF since these boxes are so small and the subs are tight.

Forgot to say they are Lanzar Neo subs. There are a couple other companies out there that make neodymium subs but these were only like 90 each, versus about 225 each for the competitors i think.

Hey Frank. You should really check out my fours. No need for anything bigger. Crossed over at 100hz with the 10" free air sub, this system ROCKS! and takes up little room. Call me this week and take a peek. Not only that, but 4's are cheaper...
