My Transmission went BOOM!!

Last week I went to a truck show and on the way home I hit the gas to hard. It hit second gear and Boom!! After that it would shift first to third not even go into second gear. So today I pulled the pan off and as you know, it did not look good. So I made a call to my transmission guy and he said your second gear in a 350 turbo is the weakest link. He said my second gear roller clutch for the outer race went BOOM!! Like he said it did not slip like it did before. My blazer eats more transmission then I have ever seen. It has to much motor and dose not spend the tires so something has to give.

Well after this I will not be hamering on it as much and have it fix so it will not shift so hard. Hope you like the pic's.

Re: My Transmission went BOOM!!

I did the same thing in my 69 Nova. It hit 2nd hard and bang- no more 2nd gear. 1st and 3rd still worked, but 2nd was gone. I pulled mine apart and found I broke the iron ring that the clutch discs rides against for 2nd gear. Broke into 3 chunks and stayed in place, but since it broke past the snap ring that holds it all in, the clutches couldn't hold. I replaced a bunch of junk on that one before I figured it out. Luckly it was a spare trans I had thrown in while I rebuilt the original one. I only had to suffer without 2nd for a couple of weeks.

A TH400 would fit right in for the most part.

You sure you want to go with a 4L80E as that tranny is all electronically controlled by computer. A 700R4 is not computer controlled and would give you overdrive. Or better yet I would look into something like a Jegs tranny that is built to handle the power. Just a suggestion.

Re: My Transmission went BOOM!!

Well got my tranny back, I had the 350 fix one more time. I am thinking about a 400 later this year, but for now I am putting 350 back in. I have only had the blazer out on the road 4 or 5 times this summer, so this is a fast fix so I can drive it some more this summer.

Take a look at the bad parts, this was a very big boom on my part. enjoy the pic's..

If your going to break something you may as well break it good!!

Maybe you should keep a spare on the shelf!
