'59 Apache Price?
I'm looking at purchasing a 1959 Chevrolet Apache 31 short-bed, stepside, big back window pickup with a 350 V8 and 4 speed transmission. It's a CA truck with a little rust on the rear passenger cab corner and a couple of other small areas of rust but nothing major. It has'nt been started in 4 years and the guy wants $2k for it. Does that seem reasonable?

As long as its not hacked up it sounds to be a fair price.

Re: '59 Apache Price?
I think it sounds right if it`s all there and a solid builder.A short Fleet 58/59 is a desireable body.It would be tough to do better.

Re: '59 Apache Price?
If it's a half way solid truck, that's not a bad price. Especially for a big window.

Re: '59 Apache Price?
The only things that are hacked up is there are is a hole cut in the bottoms of the doors for aftermarket speakers (the original one is still there!!),there is a piece of metal screwed into the dash with 3 gauges on it where the radio should be, and someone installed a 4 prong round trailer plug in the back panel right under the tailgate & one on the side of the bed above the running board. The only thing i'm weary about is the fact that it hasn't been started in 4 years and the guy said it idled rough but had alot of power. Right now the truck is white - hopefully the original blue color in a couple years

Re: '59 Apache Price?
Change the oil, filter and dump the gas out. start it from a clean jug of gas.
. It might not hurt to squirt some marvel oil in the cylinders and spin it over with the plugs out. I'm sure the tank has to have some crud in it. Expect the engine to need some repairs. |

Re: '59 Apache Price?
For $2000 I wouldn't waste your time on this truck. Now just tell me where it is and I will go and tell the owner that you decided not to buy it..........

Re: '59 Apache Price?
Sounds like there isn't any serious body problems that can't be fixed fairly easily. Personally, I wouldn't worry to much about the engine. SBC's are about the easiest and cheapist engines to rebuild.
Anybody picked up the September issue of CLASSIC TRUCKS? There'a a '59 fleet on the cover and featured inside. I was glancing through the article and noticed it has what looks like a '55 or '56 car steering wheel. Then i noticed it has a '59 car dashboard. Bet that was some work to install. |

Re: '59 Apache Price?
I'm glad I waited on the '59!!. I was out today in the country and found an 99% original except for the 261ci 6 cylinder, 1956 Chevy 3100 Deluxe model with the chrome grill and bumpers, wrap-around rear window, and a short-bed step-side. It's been in a barn for the past 23 years and the guy just got it out to sell it (original owner). It still has the original paint, the seat is in good shape, zero rust except for some surface rust on the hood and bed, the dash is not cut, and he has all the paperwork including the owners manual. I'm picking it up on Thursday for....$1800
