rear engine leak

1972 gmc sierra grande 350. I have owned truck 30 years . Engine has 375,000 miles on it. Oil pan never been off. Have leak probably rear main seal Does oil pan need to come off to replace or can auto trans. be removed thanks terryhttp://charlotte.craigslist.org/car/393167327.html

Oil pan will need to come off as the seal is a two piece. Having the trans and flywheel out/off would be a plus as it would give you more room to work.
