It may be a choke delete. I am not sure, but somebody will know for sure.

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

That's in the same spot my choke cable is on my 68 GMC 1500. Yours may be something else if you have an automatic choke and being a 2500. Follow it back to see where it goes and let us know.

Yeah. It's from choke. Not sure why you'd bother doing that, though. Why not just leave the pull knob and not use it?

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

That is a correct choke delete. Your truck probably came with a 327 or a 396 with an auto choke. Let me know if it is something you are not going to use. Eric

If that is the choke, where is the wiper switch?

Driver's side, top left. The headlight switch is below the wiper switch.

Here's an old crappy pic.

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

^Yeah, what sucks is that no one reproduces a "proper" 67-68 style 3 hole cluster bezel. They only make the ones with the wipers on the other side and no choke hole.

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

Try americanclassic.com the price is a little high, but if you need it then you just have to pay the price. My 68 came with one,but after the cab burned inside, there wasn't much left of the dash. I think the price was around $45. but it was the only place i found one.
Choke hole blanking plate Item# CKH7 Black with chrome G M and surround $34.50 plus shiping. They also have the gauge cluster housings Item#GCLH-3 $65.00

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

I decided to clean up and paint mine. I had to "melt" some cracks together and filled them in with model glue and sanded it down. Came out pretty nice...

Oh, and to keep things on topic, yeah, that looks like a choke delete

Here is the proper choke delete plate that goes in that hole.

Re: 1968 DASH help needed

I don't know if there is a "proper choke delete". I have seen 3 different styles on different trucks. Yours and the one pictured are 2 of them, the third is a round one with wrinkle finish.

Yep factory choke delete. I had a '68 Chevy C-30 with one that came with a 327 with electric choke.
