Question for Custom Camper owners
To all that own trucks with the Custom camper option, did your truck come with the aux. gas tank and aux. battery options?

I did't know if the aux. tank was on all trucks of not. I thought I was told it was only on Custom Camper but couldn't remember. The main thing I was trying to find out was how many there were out there. I would love to find a replacement tank as the old one rusted out years ago.

The only things my Custom Camper has is the rear leaf springs, 402/400, Factory trailer wiring going to the rear, front sway bar, toolbox bedside ect. It had a fuel tank in the bed but I'm thinking that was aftermarket

Yep...both.
the Aux battery has since vanished but I still have the Aux tank. Which Aux tank do you have...? Some were dealer installed and the styles vary. Try posting on the parts board for one as many people remove them.

Both, but the fuel tank is not factory, it was added at the dealer at the same time the camper was added. I think most of the frame side tanks are add ons, only the very rare between the frame rails in the back tanks, which are the same as suburban tanks are factory. I think. Not positive.

The one mine came with was a factory install, it bolted to the bottom of the bed on the drivers side, the filler neck came up like the Blazer does. Years before my uncle gave me the truck the aux tank had rusted through. I'm not going to go out of my way to replace it but I thought it would nice to have one.

Auxiliary tanks were optional. I have had 2 Custom Campers. 1 had extra tank, 1 did not.

Yes you could get Custom Camper on a 4X4.
Most aux tanks were dealer installed, and if it is not listed on the option sheet, nor on the build sheet (if you are lucky enough to find one) then that just about gurantees that it was added by the dealer or aftermarket. My first longhorn had one. I took it out and threw it away a few years ago without knowing that anyone would be interested in them. |

If the Aux tank is listed on the build sheet ..does that make it a factory installation or did the dealers still install them..?
Just curious as mine is listed on the build sheet. Oh and it's a 4x4 Custom Camper......

On the sheet...from the factory.
Not on the sheet...most likely dealer of aftermarket. |
