Simple Oil Pan Question. - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey all,
I am cleaning up the 350 in the truck, so I pulled it to paint. I dropped the oil pan and was going to use another one that I had. The confusion is that the original oil pan matches the block with only a bump out for dipstick on the driverside. The other oil pan and the one piece rubber oil pan gasket I have the bump outs on both sides of the engine for either side dipstick. The gasket has the hole on both sides, no knockouts, so both sides could be used. If I put the second oil pan (it's a little better shape than mine) and the gasket on my block without the bump on the passenger side, will it leak, or will it work okay? Thanks!

I've got a one piece universal gasket on my pan and haven't had any problems but i'm not too sure about the pan....

Don't the pans come with a metal plug of some sort? If that's intact then you should be fine.

No metal plug, that's why I'm not sure if it will work. THanks for the feedback!

If you get an after market pan such as my 7 qt , it comes with two spots for the dipstick as with most gasgets you buy. Regardless I do recommend a 1 pc gasget even if you have to trim it a little. Really reduces the leak factor all around the pan.

Buy a new pan(a good brand please!), a one piece gasket & a rear main seal - call me and thank me when it does not leak
