gmc rear drop ?

i have rear leafs above the axle so i cant use a block to drop it.is there a rear end and leaf springs from another vehicle that can be swapped into it?im not to happy with the 4:88 gears and i want a 5 lug bolt pattern.i think a whole swap would be simplest idea.dont really care about rear disc's or drums, either ones fine.

Re: gmc rear drop ?

The simplest way to drop the rear would be to pull some of the leafs out. Leave the main leaf (obviously) and the second for strength....and adjust from there. Also you can extend the shackle for moderate drops (1" -1 1/2")

You can fab up a flip kit...but that is like a super-drop, which would require a c-notch for any kind of ride.

OR....(what I plan to do to the wife's cousin's 69 GMC), is convert it over to trailing arm with coils.

Re: gmc rear drop ?

i was thinking of cutting the mounts for the leaf springs, boxing them in and flip them around and welding them to the bed frame section above them.looks like i could gain 2".i wasnt sure if removeing leaf springs would be a good thing or not.

Re: gmc rear drop ?

You can do that as well.....Just wasn't sure what you wanted to get in too...or what you were able to do.

So you just want 2" ?? Just raise the mounts up 2". Done.

Pulling the springs wont affect anything but weight carrying and axle wrap.

If your just cruiz'n with no weight, your cool....But if want to haul/tow or have mega-HP, then forget it.

If you want to do it right, then flip-kit w/notch, or convert to coilsprings.
