Need A Start!
I Must Be Overlooking Something. My '72 K5, Like New, Has Me Stumped. For A Time When I Turned The Key I Would Get A Pretty Good Bang From The Starter, Not Every Time Though. Then It Got To The Point Where Once In A While When I Turned The Key Nothing Happened, Absolutely Nothing. Now However Nothing Happens All Time. The Ignition System Is Dead. The Ignition Switch Still Starts The Stereo But Thats It. I Thought It Might Be The Battery Cable But An Ohm Meter Proved Me Wrong. Before I Go Out And Buy Some New Parts Are There Any Thoughts Out There. I Have Had My Blazer Since '73 And Seeing It Just Sit There Down For The Count Is Like Having A Sick Kid.
I Put In An Msd Electronic Ignition A Few Years Ago And I Don't Know Enough About It To Know If That Might Be The Culprit. Heres Hoping Theres An Answer Out There, Bill |

Re: Need A Start!
First thing is to check all the cable connections clean and tight. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Try using a different battery or jumper cables on your battery. If nothing, then try using an insulated handle scewdriver and CAREFULLY short on the starter from the cable to the post on the block side of the solenoid. If it turns over it could be either the ignition switch or the solenoid switch, more likely the solenoid switch. Try tapping the solenoid switch while turning the key. If it clunks or clicks without turning over you may want to remove the starter and have it tested at a parts store.

Re: Need A Start!
I had some fairly similar problems with my 69 when I first bought it. I turned out to be the plug into the back of the ignition switch. Something shorted out and it melted the plug. It was getting connection some times and progressively got worse. A new plug solved the problem.
