More work on the k5
I think after I start body work I'll just start a official build thread
 I took off the old GMC tailgate which was rusted to nothing and swapped in a decent shape with only minor rust Chevrolet tailgate,original paint,BTW.I then swapped out hoods for an extra I had due to the previous one being rusty.After getting it on I had a fight with the hinges trying to get the hood to shut.It was sitting up high in the back but I took care of that problem  The plans are to do the body work on it now while it sits low and then once done with the body work,add a suspension lift.I will probably just primer it for now,but might go ahead and get some cheap paint and shoot it now...Notice the mud on it...its been out at the river trying out the 4wd...Also notice the original '70 grill swapped in that doesnt have one piece cracked.. The PO said that the windshield frame included was not cut down far enough to go on it so I would have to weld in more than just the frame,the side pillars too.But,today I got out the windshield frame and clamped it on..I then compared to the short k10 and it looks like the windshield frame wasnt cut any shorter than this one was cut off..less work for me than planned
 I think it looks a little better now with the windshield frame in,even without the windshield.Now to get every thing lined up,measure again,align and weld it in... Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 08-28-2007 at 07:18 PM. |

It must be the pic.I put in the windshield (P.I.T.A. BTW) and it all fit right so if it's high,its less than 1/4".

Before I even got the k5 home I knew the front bumper was gonna go.I figure with it off there it would sit up a little bit higher too.Today I pulled off that big heavy p.o.s. which weighed around 75 pounds!! and put on a stock bumper.It doesnt look just right,but will work for now.I plan to get a bumper for it in better shape.It doesnt sit right due to the body lift and the bumpers still being at stock height.I shimmed the bumper up to make it sit as high as possible with the body lift but that's as far as it can go.The body lift is going bye bye as soon as I get the suspension lift,anyway

I felt tempted to see how much flexing the stock suspension would do
 BTW,I started body work on it last night..I hope to get more done tonight,and over the 3 day weekend.I might get the windshield frame welded in this weekend if I feel like it..: Here is some poser pics |

Ok,some more work done on the k5...I dont have any pics but managed to get the dent out of the rear quarter on the drivers side..I also done some minor body work to the tailgate and passenger side rear quarter.

It's always going to have dents..just not "major" dents
Maybe on a dedicated trail rig blazer it will have major battle scars,but not this one

More work on it today..looking at the doors,from 100' away you know the doors are junk,and they are the 72 style which aren't my favorite..From the many trucks I've parted I have a few truck doors left,some not good for anything.But today I got them out and practiced on them..I cut them down to use on a blazer/jimmy.I test fit them and they fit..I need to take more time on the cuts but since these were only "practice panels" I didnt dedicate much time in them.Now,I can get some truck doors in better shape then these are,and carefully cut them down.But,practicing on junk panels first beats cutting up a good door and then screw it up and be S.O.L...

A pic of the cut down truck door,and also the roll bar..The rollbar is too tall to work with the top on so I'm going to trim it down an inch or 2 so I can keep it on even with the top on it.It looks better and better,IMO, every time I work on it but it will look so much better with the lift kit installed..
